Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Plasma is the liquid portion of blood that contains platelets that are dedicated to repairing wounds. Platelets are responsible for causing blood to clot along with other necessary growth healing functions. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) consists of concentrated growth factors found to promote high rates of healing and natural regeneration of tissue. PRP therapy utilizes and amplifies the natural growth factors your body uses to heal and stimulate tissue growth. It has been used successfully for a number of years in treating many medical conditions including wounds, torn tendons, tendinitis, muscle injuries, arthritis-related pain, and joint injuries. More recently, PRP is commonly used in the area of aesthetics for anti-aging and restorative treatments due to its ability to increase cell turnover, boost collagen and elastin production, and reduce the signs of aging.
What are the benefits?
When PRP is placed into the sub-dermal layers of the skin (by injection, microneedling, or a combination of both) it can help promote the production of collagen and elastin that are responsible for maintaining the structure of the skin. This releases growth factors and stimulates and increases the number of reparative cells your body produces. This concentrated growth liquid can be used in numerous ways including treating wrinkles, superficial skin concerns (such as dark spots, acne, and surgical scars), plump hollowing areas in (under eye grooves, cheeks, and temples), even out your skin tone, improve overall skin texture, restore hair growth, and grow healthier hair. Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy essentially rejuvenates from the inside out. When used for hair restoration, it stimulates faster and healthier hair growth, creates new tissue on the scalp, and to renews hair follicles that no longer produce hair.
How long does the procedure take?
This depends on the number of areas to be treated and if a combination of treatment modalities are used during your appointment. Expect treatment to take 1-2 hours to complete.
Is it safe?
PRP treatments are completely natural and safe since they are made with your own plasma. It is obtained by drawing blood that is then placed into a special centrifuge that isolates the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma is then used for treatment. This has become popular among patients that are seeking a more natural treatment to correct the signs of aging. PRP can be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments depending on patient preference and cosmetic goals. They can be used virtually anywhere on the body, including the most delicate, sensitive, or hard-to-reach areas.
How long will my results last?
One of the top benefits of this treatment is the longevity of the results. Depending on the specific treatment, results have been seen to last for 6 months to 1 to 2 years before it needs to be repeated. On average, a series of PRP treatments can provide a refreshed and more youthful appearance for up to 18 months. For PRP treatments of the face, you can expect to see some results starting at 2 or 3 weeks. These results will be a brighter complexion, a healthy glow to the skin, and a more plump skin texture.
